Objective: To provide UX consultation and enhance the usability of the Federal Open Market Committee section of the Federal Reserve public website. The user research consisted of formative research including a review of data analytics, interviews with general users and user testing with participants using task assignments tracking performance. The analysis of the public website was guided by Nielsen Norman Group's heuristics to assess the following: Information Architecture, Accessibility and Site Navigation.
Problem: The FOMC section of the Federal Reserve public website can be updated to improve the organization of information architecture, making users more effectively able to access searched files.
Testing script complete with opening & interview questions designed to provide insight regarding the user experience of the current interface. Users were then asked to complete a series of five task assignments. Follow-up questions were asked during user testing to provide additional data and context to user's behaviors.
Design recommendations were delivered via reporting containing mockups and text describing potential user pain points and solutions. Sample 2 illustrates a potential accessibility issue that was documented as the blue text over the blue overlay may be difficult to perceive by those with visual impairments.
The key findings from user testing was documented and synthesized into reports to deliver to stakeholders and developers. Reporting like this was accompanied by detailed walkthroughs and presentations during daily stands. This report highlights pain-points discovered during testing and offers recommendations to alleviate blockages users faced when navigating and searching content on the Federal Reserve public website.
